Norton is the best but if you're looking for something for free, I'd recommend Avast. That's what I have and I've never had a virus since.

AVG without a doubt. Virus definitions are open-source, meaning that when one Anti-virus program comes up with new code to delete a new virus all of the other anti-virus programs won't be far behind.

AVG is free, the updates are free, and ever since installing it I haven't had a virus on my computer due to its E-mail scanner and Virus Shield

There is a little-known company out of Holland that makes anti-virus protection programmes for protecting military computers, stock exchanges etc. The company is Bit Defender.
Don't just take my word for it: go on line and check websites that compare and rate those systems. Again, there is no hard/fast rule. What might be adequate for me might be ineffective for you. It depends on what sort of stuff you want to protect.

McAfee, Nortion, and AVG seem to be the top 3 used. They are all about the same quality. AVG is free and doesn't take up much space so it's best in my opinion.

Norton seems pretty good. It seems to work a little smoother than Mcafee.
