Can they be fixed. When the little sun sucking thingies on the top stop absorbing can these be cleaned or should we cut the losses and make lanterns.

I think that making lanterns out of them is your best bet. (Thanks for the idea.) The panel replacements usually cost more than the lights. In the next couple of months, Target will end cap the solar lights. You can get them for a great savings.

Yes... Usually solar powered lanterns are very simple ... they consist of the following parts....
1)The solar cell which absorbs the rays.
2)The thingamagic which converts solar rays to electrical energy.
3)The baterry which stores the absorbed power.
4)The light sensor which tells the puts on the light at sunset.
5)The LED (light emitting diodes) which lights up at night.
6)The Wiring which connects it all together.

The possible causes of it not working.....

*The Panel may have stopped absorbing the sunrays.
Needs cleaning if dirty or replacement if scratched.
*Next check and try replacing the rechargable battery cells.....usually the cells are cheap china makes.....get branded ones for longer life.
*The LEDs have a very long life ....and usually never fail.
*The light sensors may be spoilt and will drain the baterry if they dont shut off durring day.....or may not be able to put on the lights at sundown.
If a wire is shorted or broken simply resolder it.
All Parts are usually available at any RADIO SHACK STORE in the U.S.
Hope I am of help to U....
Wishing U A Well Lit Garden!!!
