The Sun is not burning! It's not even close to burning. The Sun is a huge ball of plasma in hydrostatic equilibrium. The Sun is also undergoing nuclear fusion by fusing two or more nuclei into one single nucleus. So, no, the Sun is not burning.

First of all, there is no "top" in space, especially when dealing with a sphere....all positions are relative.
Second,
the Sun is a giant ball of mostly Hydrogen gas undergoing nuclear fusion. The sun in not literally "burning" like a log might in a fireplace. The reason the sun has such a long "lifetime" is that it derives its energy from a nuclear reaction occurring at its core, it does not act as a giant burning coal, if it did, it would have gone out long ago.
Also, Since the Sun is mostly Hydrogen gas,
if it did "burn", Water would be produced....there would be no smoke. Smoke is produced by the incomplete combustion of carbon compounds...burning Hydrogen would never produced smoke, only steam.

Smoke is caused by the unused portion of the fuel in a combustion process. Ash, rising in the heat of the fire.
The sun's fusion process completely consumes the "fuel" or hydrogen atoms, with the exception of the energy in heat and light released. [The atoms fuse into helium.] Thus, there is no "ash" to show as smoke.

OMG, no oxygen in the galaxy...can't...breathe.....aaaaaaaaaaaagggggggghh

Have you ever seen smokes rising in the air when oxygen burns to form CO 2 during respiration..... The same way helium burns in air....

Because not everything that burns releases smoke. Have you ever lit a bunson burner in a chemistry class? It produces a smokeless flame from burning gas.

the reason we don't see smoke is that the gravity of the sun keeps it there.
