I am trying to talk to my niece about this. She doesn't have a mom.... I found this out quite by accident. As she was stealing my tampons!!! She told me she uses them so she won't get her underwear dirty... I told her she could get an infection... but she continues to do this... any other suggestions?

I would be more concerned about this dirty underwear thing. She could already have an infection and is trying to cover it up in some odd way.

Take her to planned parenthood and have a nurse talk to her. They can give her all the details about what could happen.

There are better things to wear than tampons for daily use to have clean undies. As you know tampons are for use during your periods. Suggest light pads or the more current pant liners. You're on the right track here.

Shes wearing a tampon before her period?? Tell her to stop being a theif. Maybe when she gets an infection, she will learn.. Or have her go talk to a Dr about it. That usually helps.

tell her to read the little paper inside the box. it had a disease that teenagers especially can get if they are using tampons while not on their period or that are more absorbent than their flow. I knew a girl that got this in high school and she was out of school and sick for a few weeks. It was not good.

You need to take her to the Dr. and let them explain the problems associated with tampon usage such as TSS. Have her read the insert in the tampon box. Buy her pantyliners and explain that they help to keep her fresh and her underwear unsoiled.

I agree, tell her about pantiliners. I'd also find out if she's having a problem with vaginal discharge.......she could have an infection. By the way, a clear to milky-white discharge is normal.

Toxic shock, she could die if they are left in too long... panty liners? or PANTY LINERS???????? I'm a guy and i know this much... panty liners, assure her that is the way to go, that they will protect her panties better than a tampon and won't give her toxic shock.... c'mon now.
