It can be anything you want. The only difference will be how you configure the other computer to work with XP and vice versa.

actually I have a mac and a windows machine on the same network and it's easier to set up the mac sharing than the windows sharing.

I agree with the first guy who answered.
If you are sharing files or printers, it is best to have another Windoze machine, and even then, it will be frustrating for a non-IT user.
