No. It's like a pinch. It happens real fast and then it doesn't hurt until it swells up. It'll be swollen for about a week.

You'll have to learn to eat differently so you don't crack your teeth while chewing.

Tell them you want titanium only.

As for the MORONIC repsonses below from idiots who haven't had this done;
There's Little to no blood (unless they do it wrong, then you need to go to the hospital asap).
It does not hurt for a month! It doesn't even hurt when it's done. The only trouble is swelling and your tongue is likely to cramp some for the next week. After the first week, you'll be fine. Talking will be a little weird and you might lisp a little while your tongue is swollen.
Morons; who are you all having pierce your tongue??? Some underground trailer park guy that doesn't sterilize his ****??? (Stupid people piss me off)

God, go to someone reputable and keep your mouth clean. Use lots of icewater for the next week and you'll be fine! After 1-2 weeks you HAVE to go back and have them put a shorter rod in. The piercing barbell is too long if you continue to wear it after 1-2 weeks you wear the enamel off of your teeth, risk cracking your teeth and constantly have a lisp (this is why we don't buy cheap jewelry). The second barbell will be shorter - You'll talk normally. (The first one was long to provide room for swelling).

Cheap mall jewelry isn't sterile. It's too long.
Go with titanium b/c it's polished finer and will reduce scaring incase you want to remove the piercing when you become old and grey. You will have a scar but it won't be as big and nasty as if you had worn stainless steel or plasic crap.

Good Luck. See the link below and don't listen to idiots.

It didn't hurt anymore than when you get your ears pierced. I would imagine it makes a big difference to have a person who knows what they are doing. It's just a split second feeling then nothing. I have gotten shots that hurt worse. The guy warned us that actually a lot of times you hurt your neck more cause you involuntarily strain your neck muscles when you feel it touch your tongue. He told us straight up that we had to be able to follow the rules or he wasn't going to do the piercings. We had to promise not to smoke, suck on a straw, and keep it very clean for the first few days and chew lots of ice.
Mine was a little swollen for the first 3 days (that's why the bar is longer then you really need) but I was able to go to work and answer phones and talk to my boss with out anyone knowing something was up.
The only pain full experience I have had is I got a pretzel hooked on it and then bit down on it lol.

No it doesn't hurt, there is no blood, and my tongue was only swollen for two days. I took Advil and chewed on ice whenever my tongue would get sore. It really isn't a big deal. The only thing is that it may take a little while for you to get used to eating food with something already in your mouth. But I feel that you will be fine if/when you decide to get it done!!

It didn't hurt at all when I got mine done. The clamp hurt worse than the needle going in and that barely hurt. What hurt the worst was afterward for the next 3 days or so my tongue was swollen and sore, but after that its nothing. The ppl that are saying it hurts obviously haven't had theirs done. My hole closed so I'm going to get it repierced. Enjoy your piercing!

Yes, i did it a few years ago and my tongue was swollen for like a week or more and I couln't hardly eat anything without the tongue ring getting in the way and when i would try to eat something, i would have to like push the food to the side of my mouth and chew it with my finger helping me keep it away from my ring. But after that week or so period was over it was fine and I loved playing with it in my mouth and rolling it over my teeth. I would probably do it again.

it does hurt like any other piercing would though since this is a very sensitive spot, it will more likely hurtmore. Though the pain of getting it done is nothing compared to what it is like getting infected. Tongue throbs, losing the sense of taste in worst cases.

Usually, anything that involves making a hole where there wasn't a hole before will cause pain. However, if it is something you are interested in, the amount of pain will vary on how much you want to get your tongue pierced.

when I got my tongue pierced it hurt just alittle bit if you dont mind needles then you wont have a problem. Its just a little pinched and only take 5 seconds for the needle to go through.

I havent had it done but I saw a girl have it done, she screamed. And the next few days her tongue was so swollen it looked terrible. Why go thru that kind of pain? Just so you can talk funny.
