you are wrong about ice hockey, but right about field.
the reason many ppl think field is dangerous is the same reason you think ice is dangerous, its called ignorance!

Even with all of the equipment it is pretty dangerous. I have two brothers who play on college hockey teams. They are always breaking their wrists and have accidentally broken other guys bones from hard hits. They have had more concussions than I can count over the years. It is just a very physical sport. When you go up against the boards the wrong way or when your head hits the ice, that can be dangerous.
I will say hockey is a great sport and I love watching the game.

The worst injuries I've had from hockey have been from my own stupidity or things that the rules protect you from, in general.
This last Sunday I went into the boards at MACH 2 because I failed to get my skates sharpened, lost control at high speed, went A over T and then neglected to get oriented right before I hit. As a result? A bruised, limping mess.
There are a lot of injuries in hockey. More so than rugby? No. More than baseball? You bet.
Like the other guy said, I don't think about getting hurt when I'm out there. It's the dead last thing on my mind -- I just don't care.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Have you ever played hockey? If you have you wouldn't be asking this question! It's dangerous on so many levels! There is no way you can avoid being injured if you are being body checked and hit from behind for one thing! You won't get a clean body check every single time you are hit! Obviously the players in the NHL are getting hurt...you don't think they "know how to play"? You obviously have no clue what you are talking about! So many guys have to cut their careers short because of concussions and irreversible damage to their bodies and not to mention the fact that you risk getting in a fight with someone every time you go on the ice! If body checks, sticks, pucks, fist fights, ice and skates don't sound dangerous to you then you are clueless! I hope someone smokes you into the boards so hard so you can see how it feels..and then think about how it feels to be hit like that every shift! Hopefully they knock some sense into you!

A disc of solid rubber flying through the air at anywhere from 70-110 MPH...sound dangerous enough? How about a 200 LB man sliding at about 20 MPH on ice directly at you and slamming your body on the plexiglass or just dropping you to the ice? Think that is dangerous enough for you? Trust me...I've only played roller hockey and I took a hockey ball to the side of my neck and jaw. That was enough for me to be convinced. Hockey is definitely a dangerous sport. It is made more dangerous when you play with those who don't know how because they can't control their sticks.

I have played ice hockey for over twenty years, and it(the dangers) have never even entered my mind when stepping onto the ice.
At different levels it could be dangerous, but there is usually a "honour among thieves" if you will......i.e., you don't crush someone from behind into the boards, you never swing your stick at someone(well, above the waist anyways), you only fight other fighters, et cetera.
Anyone who thinks hockey is a dangerous sport, hasn't played enough......and will be injured when they play, due to concerning themselves with "playing safe"
Roller hockey is for the faint of heart, evidently.
Real men play on ice.

you can always fall and the ice skate blades cuts into someone else... you can hit someone accidentally with the hockey stick. a lot of fights break out at hockey games with the players and the fans. danger comes from all the fast movement and equipment.

Even if you're playing "safely," there's still always a chance of injury - an awkward hit, a puck taking a bad bounce, a wayward stick.
Hockey is a physical and grueling game, but not one that's usually going to feature violent injuries like football. Still, all you have to do is look at an injury list to see the risks involved.

obviously you've never played. it's the fastest, hardest hitting game on the planet - also you have a frozen rubber disk whizzing around the rink at incredible speeds (except if it was my shot) lastly, accidents happen to even the most talented players and when you take all of these variables into account you are going to be playing a very dangerous sport.

There are risks in any sport. It can be worse with people who are not regular players.
The game is the fastest and most fun to play of any sport I have tried. If you go out and keep your head up wear solid gear and play with people who are at least familiar with the sticks etc you will be fine.

Have you seen a game. It is rough sport getting hit. And if you dont know how to play you are either not passing the puck and/or just not pushing hard enough for your team, etc. You have to know what you are doing to be a professional.
