It was a way of keeping girls afraid of physical contact with boys. If a girl never kissed a boy, she sure wouldn't have sex with him! Since one activity leads to the next, it was an "acceptable" way to tell girls not to have sex without affecting her purity.

Probably from concerned parents trying to make sure their daughters didn't get pregnant before they got married. It's so easy for a kiss to lead to more than just kissing. It may be a bit extreme, but it wasn't a bad safety valve.

The myth probably comes from some girl tricking some idiot boy into marrying her because she's pregnant for someone else.

I think it may have arisen from an unwillingness to provide children with accurate details about sex. I have a children's book on Norse mythology that describes a couple kissing and then producing offspring. The reference to kissing looks like a way of avoiding describing what they must really have done. Children who read such books must come away thinking that kissing causes pregnancy.

I knew a girl in 7th grade that believed that...I was her classmate at the time and madly in love with her. She would let me kiss her cheek and face, but not on the lips...she was ahell of a hand holder. Still love her I think. Her parents told her...and I must say it makes a lot more sense than the stork brought babies.

we told a girl that once in high school, she also beleived she could get pregnant if she entered a room where people have had sex, it's not a myth it's a cruel mean lie that mean kids tell the more sheltered and nieve kids. I wish I never had, it was mean...

Kissing usually turns into sex and that is how the girl gets pregnant.

I think this was an old wives tale told to young girls to scare them off boys until they got married. I don't think its a myth as such
