Gutting.

I recently read "Inside Out" by Nick Mason. (I wouldn't say it's his autobiography, because it's more of a biography of the band) and mentioned to my hubby that it would be very interesting to get Syd's perspective on things, if he was ever coherent enough to really talk to you about it.

According to Mason, the last meeting Syd had with any of the band was during the recording of the Wish You Were Here album, when he came to visit the studio, and someone (ironically David Gilmour) actually had to introduce Syd to Nick, because Nick didn't recognize him. It's very sad what happened to him.

And so the world of music mourns another loss.

I have heard 2 possible causes of death. one Diabetes related and the other of cancer.

The person who compared Syd's health and Jerry health doesn't have a clue. Roger Keith (Syd) Barret hasn't been on drugs since he left the mental hospital in the 70's. He wasn't ever into the things that did Jerry in, as in heroin. I am a huge dead fan, but you can not compare the 2 deaths at all. Jerry toured and did heroin for years, where as Roger(Syd) has been holed up at his mothers house in Cambridge for the last 30 years painting and being a recluse because he wanted to seperate his life from Pink Floyd, he would no longer answer to being called Syd. He became Roger again.

Please show the man some respect and listen to some of his music tonight in reverance of a man who inspired those who inspired the world. He has finally found the peace he has been searching for, a 30 year long journey. RIP Roger Keith(Syd) Barret. Thanks for your contributions to this world

No, they've not released that info yet.

But, considering the massive amounts of drugs the guy did, he probably wasn't in the best of health. It's like asking how Jerry Garcia died. It wasn't an overdose, but the massive amounts of drugs he did over his life played a large part in his bad health.
