I play racquetball often (not for sport, but recreationally) this doesn't mean though that we don't play hard. The most important piece of protection I would recommend are the goggles!
I've been hit in the eye without them and trust me...ALWAYS wear them!
I've also been hit in the mommy / daddy buttons, but just once and yes...it hurt, but I think playing with a cup would be too uncomfortable. It's not common to be hit there, and you have to be athletic and ready for anything in such a fast paced sport. (Almost like dodgeball...dodge, dip, duck, dive & dodge!) (Never take your eye off the ball) (hence the reason for the goggles.)
In anything you do there are going to be risks. I've been hit in the throat at close range from a strong side arm...THAT HURT! But what am I going to do? Wear a neckbrace for protection? You just have to grin 'n bear it. The cup isn't necessary. Your boys will be ok. The only suggestions I have are:
Wear a wrist bands to wipe sweat quickly away if need be, and a headband if you find that sweat gets in your eyes from dripping down.
I like to wear a glove to both help me with my grip on the racket and to protect the handle wrap from sweat and wear.
Use ace bandages to protect certain areas if you have to. I have a tendency of spraining my ankles, so I wrap them before each game and they're fine.
Hope this helps, have fun!

I think that all baseball players should wear a protective cup, especially if they play infield, but even the out -fielder guys are at risk when they are at the batters' plate. All guys are at risk when they are on the base from a fast thrown baseball. There are a lot of new cups and cup-jockstraps for guys to choose from now and every guy should now be able to find one that fits him real good and is real comfortable for him to wear. It is "old fashioned" to think that the male penis and balls should not be protected real good all the time in baseball and in other sports.

If you think it's going to restrict your movement too much, I'd probably skip it. I've never been hit there playing racquetball, but I guess you never know. Chances are that, even if it gets you between the legs, it's not going to be that bad - it's not like taking a puck!

It's not just getting hit by the ball, you need to be concerned about your oponent swinging the racquet. Odds of getting hurt increase even more in doubles.
