Acoustic means a traditional hollow body (usually wood but now there are other materials) that does not have a microphone or amplified pickup. A classical guitar is an acoustic guitar, but has certain distinguising characteristics: a wide neck and fingerboard, the octave being where the neck joins the body of the guitar, an 18 fret fingerboard, use of nylon or gut strings strummed and plucked by the fingers(nails and flesh) of the right hand.
Jazz, folk, country etc. acoustics have longer thinner necks and fingerboards and have traditionally used metal strings strummed and plucked with a pick for greater volume.

Usually an acoustic has steel strings, and a classic has nylon. Plus, a classical has the strings farther apart, so it's easier to use your fingers to pick.
