I tend to seek out the questions regarding racial tensions, prejudices, etc between blacks and whites, and read the answers that different people leave. I've notice that though there are a handful of jerks who ask the ridiculously insane questions regarding blacks, there are a whole lot more of you who respond to those qustions with disgust, as opposed to agreement. I think that in itself shows that we, as a country are making progress. Maybe there's hope for America yet. . .anyone else agree?

To the first respondant, like i said, I seek out questions regarding black and white relations, trust me, I am very open minded, however that dynamic is what interests me the most.

I dorealiz it is a global issue, however, I DO live in America. You have to deal with "home" first - baby steps. . .

please take note of the ". ." surrounding the word white people. This word was used only because it was the best way to discribe the group i was speaking of in way others would understand. Apparently I was wrong about my question/statement from the start. Some of you are too defensive to even really read and understand my point. We're doomed! Maybe our probelm isn't race at all, just sheer ignorance. . .

Unlike many who responded to your question, I understand what you are trying to say; however, It's hard to have a dialog with narrow minded individuals. I think, as a nation, we have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go, and that's not just with black/white issues. It includes the many other racial and ethic groups throughout our country. Thanks for the question. We can't gain insight unless we discuss these issues and see the points of others.

Ok. I am going to spill my guts. First of all I get along with everyone regardless of who they are. If you are a good person then you are a good person. The racial tensions will always be present. First of all I get aggravated when a black person says they did not get hired because they are black, and not because maybe they truly did not meet the requirements. There is a BET on television and we are fine with that, except if we put WET on the air then OH MY Gosh, we are being racial. There is the Ebony magazine, but if we have an Ivory Mag, then Lord and behold!!! I am not being mean, I am just trying to point out that racial tensions can be aggravated by the "African Americana's" constant need to be recognized!! I love that America is a melting pot of many and that does not bother me at all. Just give Jesse Jackson a real job instead of blackmailing corporations.

LOL! I don't mean to make light of the situation but you seem to have quickly lost your hope given some of the responses to this question.
I think that people are naturally defensive and some just like to have something to attack, so much so that they miss the actual point being made.
It’s like this: There are some good-hearted people in this world and then there are some total jerks. Both will always exist. I think that individually, we can make progress but as a group it just gets to be one big mess.
I do understand your small sense of hope in noticing that not everyone out there is a racist jerks, as I have reflected on that also. Will people ever really understand another race than their own; no, but that’s to be expected. As long as there are still those who will be respectful, you can have hope in knowing that many people you will encounter in life will not be ignorant jerks.
Peace.

Hi,im in u.k and have never understood why there was ever any racial hatred,we are all of the human race, and its very blinkered of people to see the colour of ones skin,i look for the personality and love in the heart, colour has never been an issue with me.
I have read several books on it,and it baffles me why one skin colour can think they are better than another,we are all equal.
A book im reading now by coincidence is called slaves in the family by Edward Ball, from the white perspective, its arrogant and all the slave owners claim the treated their slaves well in one breath, the had them beaten in the next. Then when you see films like Roots, you are ashamed to be white, and i just hope one day,we can ALL see beyond a skin tone, and look inside the heart.Sorry i got carried away,i get mad at this racial thingy.Lol.:):)

No, I disagree strongly. As a Southwesterner, temporarily placed in the north, I have seen divisiveness and racial tension that rivals the problems of the fifties and sixties. From my observation point (and it is a good one), the whites fear, and belittle blacks, and the blacks distrust and hate the whites. (Before any of you jump on my back, understand I am speaking in general terms).
I have never encountered such run ins with the "opposing" race as I have here in Yankee territory. We need to educate the "Progressive North".

Bigotry and Racism are a two way street. All sides need some work. You can't seek equality and preference at the same time. As a whole, this sense of entitlement has got to be vanquished. Self responsibility will lead the way, for all.

Well, I think there is always hope, regardless. In my mind, the main idea is to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. And lets knock off the superior attitude. Despite the gifts God gave us, we all have short-comings and human frailties. Those gifts could also be quickly taken from us. Keep asking the questions. It makes us all think about how it might be to be of a different race.

No there's no hope. America is a melting pot and our differences will always seperate us from the similarities. There are many narrow minded people that live here and even though it's 2006, I think it will stay this way for a long time.

I'm white and see exactly what you're talking about. THere are a lot of homophobics out there too! I think this generation that is coming up is a lot less prejudiced and I see a greater tolerance of mixed marriages. So hopefully things will continue to get better.
