I think, Zidane's act was natural. But he shouldn't have acted like this. Bacause, I think his absence lead France to defeat.

they read Materazzi's lips and he first told him: "Hold on, wait, that one's not for a feccia ('****', 'scum') like you." Zidane then allegedly told Materazzi that if he really wanted to have his shirt, he could have it afterwards. It is unclear what Zidane specifically said , but the claim is backed by Zidane's body language as he walked past Materazzi. Materazzi allegedly replied: "I'd rather take the shirt off your wife." he reportedly added: "We all know you are the son of a terrorist *****."

First of all I'm a Zinedine Zidane's fan.
As far as the incident is concerned though, I do not justify his act. It was not professional and the consequences effected not only him personally but the whole team as well.
But he received a red card for that, he got punished and that should be all...End of story.
I do not understand all these polemics, should we "crucify" him for that???
And by the way, shouldn't we look at the other side as well? Since when insults and verbal abuse is Fair Play? And why do we only focus on Zidane and be so tolerant with Materrazzi?

Headbutt.... nah I don't think he should have headbutted him. I think most likely that Materazzi said something that deserved it, but I would have much rather see Zidane score a goal to get back at him. I hold nothing against Zidane, however, and I respect him for having come out of such a tough neighborhood as a kid, and sticking up for his Algerian descent in the past. Do I believe he did the right thing however? No, but my opinion of him is not changed.

This is not the first time Zidane physically assaulted another player during a match. Anyone remember the poor Saudi Arabian player he stomped on during 1998 World Cup? Zidane was red-carded and banned for 2 games after that little display of brute force. Also, while playing for Juventus, Zidane head-butted a player who had tackled him. Seems like Zizou needs to learn control his temper.

OF COURSE NOT!!
How can a reaction like that ever be justified?!!
Materazzi must have a big mouth..(I'm Italian, I can admit to it)
But Zidane surely does have some anger management issues.

OK, here is the answer. The BBC got an Italian lip reader to check out what was said to Zidane.
M: Grabs Zidane's nipple.
Zidane says something.
M: No. Calm down, liar. I wish an ugly death to you and all your family. [Z's mother was seriously ill]
M: Go f u c k yourself.
Z turns round and knocks M to the ground. With his head.

Zidane has always had anger managment problems, Materazzi can speak all he wants, no reason to ever headbutt anybody!

that was very unprofessional. especially in front of a billion viewers many of which were kids. that was my very first soccer game i have ever watched because it was for the cup. still i was hyped like never before but his actions cannot be justified. if i was making millions of dollars to kick a ball up and down the field i would be to happy taking my anger out on the ball and not a fellow player.
what made up for it was when the other two players from opposing teams hugged each other in the midst of all the craziness that was going on. that is what sportsmanship is all about.

Zidane was right to hit him, I would have done the same (well, actually I would have punched him), but probably he should have waited till the end of the match.

well, short answer is no.
but long answer is depends on what he said, he should have waited after the game to head butt him, and maybe ask chuck Norris to roundhouse kick him if what Materazzi said was offensive..
but if Materazzi said something just to provoke him..then..he shouldn't have done anything...except threaten him that chuck Norris will roundhouse kick him if he doesn't stop.

Of course, I support him big time. Believe me, you would've have done something wild and violent too if yo were in his position, I have. You see, when you are in a position like that, you tend to forget who you are and act at the spur of the moment and then you realize later that what you did was wrong but at the same time you don't have any regrets. See what I mean.
