why are post it notes yellow?

For the same reason that road caution signs and highlighters are yellow. Yellow and black is the most easily seen color combination to the human eye.

They come in other colors too. But a lot of people use them as bookmarks/reminders so yellow is a bright cheery colour that stands out so you know it's not just another piece of paper. I'm not sure.

The originals were yellow because it's easier to read and they stand out among all the white papers on your desk.
But now, they have a rainbow of color.

maybe because yellow is bright. I am not sure. They have soooooo many colors now, but it is probably because they wanted yellow to be thei signature color is yellow is bright. That is my opinion though.

cause yellow is a color that people notice and is easy to see whenever you have something written on it.
unlike black or blue on red
but there are other colors of post it nowadays...
