Are you serious? I know you were "looking" for that, huh? Anyway, you "answered" your own question - when you stated these words: "a really dim and blatantly silly question"! If the question is really dim and blatantly silly then one wonders why anyone would be so ridiculous to ask such. Therefore, one becomes a "know-it-all" and asks the question "Are you serious?" in answer to the said "dim and silly" question! God - it could get confusing - that's why I normally stay away from "dim and blatantly silly questions"!

Because it may not be a really dim and blatantly silly question. Things are not always what they first appear to be.

sometimes people (like kids or just silly people) on here will ask a silly question but they actually want a real answer so you never know if they are serious

They have no sense of homour. Most of them had it surgically removed thinking it was an easy way to lose 10 pounds. Guess they were wrong.
