im a barber, you shave in the direction the hair grows.if the hair grows upward you shave up. if the hair grows downward you shave down, if the hair grows cross ways you shave cross ways. what ever the direction of the hair growth is,,,thats the rule

Men shave in both directions. The hair on my face grows downward so I shave upwards on my face for a close shave. The hair on my neck grows upward so I shave downwards on my neck.

I don't know why they tell us to shave in a downward motion. I shave upwards against the grain of the hair and I always have.

in medical school, i was taught to shave the cheeks and chin downward and the neck area upward. i think it depends on how the hair is growing for most guys, so there probably isnt a "one shave fits all" technique.

if they shave upwards they might risk teh chance of hurting themselves.our face is curved downwards,see.

it causes to much irritation and razor burn usually. when we shave up we are usually shaving against the grain which leads to the irritation. therefore, we shave downward.
