What version of the Gibson Les Paul would you buy?

Question

If you had about $1500 to work with, what edition of the Gibson Les Paul would you consider buying and why? Looking for opinions on pickup choices between the versions as well as the playability between them.

Obviously "E" has never priced a Les Paul, because they are not "very very inexpensive" at all.

If I had $1500 to work with, I'd buy a Fender Strat, a Marshall Half-Stack (used) and still have money left over. Not until I get my 5 Million dollar record deal.

Greetings! I own a Les Paul Studio fireburst style guitar, the one with gold hardware and without the pick guard. I love it something fierce. To answer your question, it helps to know what style of music you're playing. I'm a metal dude so my Paul has an EMG 81 active pickup in the bridge which is so killer for tight riffing. If good old rock is your style you won't have any problems with the stock pickups, 498T Alnico in bridge and 490R in neck, because they sound full and meaty. I'm a big fan of the guitar, especially the bad *** case that comes with it. For the money, my only suggestion is to go to an authorized dealer that has a few of the guitars and play them all to you find one that is the best. Not all guitars are made equal so make sure you play all of them to find the one that sounds the best, good action with no dead frets, clear and loud WITHOUT being plugged in etc. I hope this helps you on the way to getting your sound. I would get a Custom Gold Top because that's the one that I've seen people like Jimmy Page playing.

I Personally like the LES PAUL, JUNIOR types...like THE MELODY MAKER. ARIEL BENDER played one in MOTT THE HOOPLE. Buy this and you won't look like everybody else .
