Yes there are hurricanes is the Easter Pacific Ocean. They mostly go out to sea and die off. They all so hit Mexico and sometimes do hit Southern California as others have said it is rare. This is because the ocean currents in the Pacific are coming from around Alaska and that is cool water. Hurricanes need at least 80 F to get going. It is very rare for a Storm to hit Europe but it did happen this past season. Somebody said that they are called Typhoons in the Pacific that are and right and they are wrong. They are called Typhoons in the Western Pacific (Asia) but they are called Hurricanes in the Eastern Pacific. The season from the Eastern Pacific starts about a week before the Atlantic about May 23 or so. Any questions feel free to ask me.

Hurricane season starts in the Pacific on May 15th, in the West Pacific, they can form almost year around, tho it's rare in February and March. They are called Typhoons there after the International Date Line. Has a hurricane ever hit California?? Yes, A storm named Kathleen, back in Sept of 76. It hit as a tropical storm thought. It's rare for a storm in the Pacific to actually go due north because of the westerlies.

As different answerers have said, the chilly waters off the California coast have a tendency to weaken hurricanes lengthy beforehand they attain land. No hurricanes are properly-known to have hit California quickly, even inspite of the actuality that there replaced right into a targeted to-omit in 1858 (typhoon-rigidity winds were reported from l. a. to San Diego, even if the interest of the hurricane did not make landfall), and countless different tropical storms have struck countless aspects of the coast. more suitable oftentimes, the continues to be of tropical storms will carry clouds and rain, more often than not to southern California.

No hurricane has hit the California Coast since records began, but a tropical storm with 50 mph winds did come ashore at Long Beach on Sept. 25, 1939, killing at least 45 people.

Cold ocean water off the California Coast weakens storms that make it that far north.

Hurricanes can, very rarely, hit Los Angeles. (Yes, they would be called "Hurricanes", too.)

However, the cold ocean current off of the California coast would usually dissipate any hurricane that may meander toward LA.

we call it hurricanes here in CA, duh. even in hawaii. ONLY in the western pacific they call it typhoons. its really rare to see hurricanes in southern CA because our ocean water here is colder than in the east coast. our chances of hurricane in CA is not even close to as much as NY. however, we've had a couple hurricanes in CA in the past 70 years, which one of them went through the gulf of CA and hit through the low deserts.

The earth rotates in the wrong direction for this to really impact California.
Mudslides & firestorms, oh yeah - earthquakes, that's what you should really worry about!
