Today, Mr Cricket, Michael Hussey is the No. 1 batsman in ODIs. Check his average/strike rate etc on cricinfo.com - should be a good pointer, mate. (he's a lefti too)
Gillchrist is by far the most exciting, but like Jayasuriya and Viru, flash does him in. No sweat tho.
As a complete impact player, I'd go with Ponting today - best ODI form of his life, setting up matches, and making some effective decisions as captain - the next year will see Punter emerge beyond Hussey, Gilchrist by a long shot.
And what with all that ambidexetrous stuff the Aussies love, he might even start batting left handed.
