LONDON (AFP) - Italy's Marco Materazzi called Zinedine Zidane a "son of
a terrorist *****" just before the France captain gave him a brutal
head-butt in the World Cup final, Britain's top forensic lip reader
says.

The Times newspaper hired Jessica Rees, whose skill has seen her
summoned as an expert witness at criminal trials, to study a tape of
Sunday's match that saw Zidane get a red card for his seemingly
spontaneous assault.

"After an exhaustive study of the match video, and with the help of an
Italian translator, Rees claimed that Materazzi called Zidane 'the son
of a terrorist *****' before adding 'so just f*** off' for good
measure," it said.

Sad indeed at this age and time....

Apparently, there were lip readers for the deaf, who replayed the exchange of words between Materazzi and Zidane. They believe that Materazzi called Zidane's mother a terrorist *****, further insulted muslims, and also told Zidane, this ball is not for you n i g g e r. Materazzi apparently said these things repeatedly. I don't know which insult was said last that brought Zidane to the brink.
There was an article in the British paper The Guardian about this.

Zidane and Materazzi clash for a lofted ball high in the air. Materazzi walks away with a smirk on his face, realizing the contact between Zidane and his nose left gigantic green snot on Zidanes bold head. Zidane wonders why Materrazi is walking away with a smirk on his face and asks Materrazi what he finds so funny? Materrazi giggles, turns to Zidane and tells him about the green monster. Zidane raises his right hand, transferring the snot onto his hands. Zidane flicks the green goooo onto the floor. He suggests to Materrazi that he should lick it off the ground. Materrazi giggles once again before suggesting that Zidane should piss off. This sparks Zidane into a fit rage, leading Zidane to head butt Materrazi.

End.

'He looked at me with a huge arrogance and said, `If you really want my shirt I'll give it to you afterwards'. I replied with an insult, that's true.'

Materazzi has not elaborated on what he did say, but one report suggested he responded with: `I'd rather take the shirt off your wife'.
