I hate when companies do this to me.

The last time it happened was just last week.

I would have made a damn good Batman too.

Do you mean is it legal for a company to advertise a vacancy that doesn't exist?

If so then the answer is yes. Recruitment Companies do this all the time as they book space permanently in a number of well known Daily and Sunday papers on the "jobs" pages. It keeps the recuitment company's name in the public mind.

The responses are usually put into the recruitment company's adatbase so they have a bank of candidates to show recruiters.

I would say that that is false advertising. I have experienced this where there have been recruitment companies who have advertised for jobs then when you phone up they say that the job no longer exists. The way they get around this is that the job did at one point exist but was filled and because they had a good response they leave it in and simply say that they forgot to take it off.

This is done all the time in Local Government and while it may be legal I feel it's totally wrong.
