Better product.

Open architecture allows for multi-vendor support and economies of scale in large volume.

By keeping everything closed and "secret" Apple by design keeps tight control over everything... Means they sell less stuff, but at a higher cost to consumers and more profit for Apple!

The Apple fans point out that it is "more stable," but given the HUGE numbers of hardware and software products that MS supports that is of course ludicrous! Apple would CHOKE trying to support that many products!

Bottom line...
MS provides more choices, capabilities, functionality, at a FAR better pricepoint for the consumer's benefit!

They are not attach to a specific hardware like apple.
The target home users but other type of uses and needs

And the most important one they have a lot of money to re-invest in technology so everybody else try to do their products to work on Microsoft platform.
