Good question.

It kinda seems that our parents were right all along, huh?

When we're young, we all rebel against our parents, the schools, the establishment, government, simply because we thought we knew better.......no one could tell us what's right because "we know" what's right!

A lot of information that our parents were telling us went "in one ear, and out the other." LOL!

As we grow older, and some of us even have children of our own, we begin to realise that everything our parents were telling us was to prepare us for when we got to be their age....

But when we're young, we NEVER think that one day we're going to be as old as our parents are (that "hope I die before I get old" mentality is too prevalent in our youth)

But Life HAPPENS! Eventually, all of us get to an age when we realise that we can't be young forever, and Life's responsibilities take on more importance than "sticking it to the Man."

My advise to new parents is: Teach your children right....don't expect them to listen to you, because they won't! that's for sure......but maybe, JUST MAYBE, some of that information will seep through.

Good luck!

Oh my God,great question,I always swore I would not turn into my Mother and I still deny I am like her,I am 47 and I find myself telling strangers when to wean and potty train just like Mom,Also my mom is a vengeful woman and so am I!However my Mom is also a racist and I am proud to say I am not and that is one thing about her I will never be like,I don't care how southern and how old you are there is no damn excuse!!!

I know what you mean. I always said that I would never turn into a person that was a neat freak about things. That I also would not be strict with my kids when I have them. But now I like a clean house and I can now see looking back that my parents being strict with me probably kept me out of a lot of trouble!

well it all depends on your push in life and what your parents were like, mine were both druggies and alcoholics and i'm afraid to drink period. so, i didn't turn into mine at all. I am 21 and I have more then either of them two put together have ever had. so, its all about you and how hard you push yourself in life to become something better. i think people feel its normal to just be like their parents, its like a safe comfort zone, but I want more out of life.

Because this is the good way... Parents do what is good for their children, but the children can't understand at the moment. They need to be older to understand.

Because when you age......you tend to figure out that maybe your parents were right after all. We just do not notice until we are older.

Now that we're older and parents ourselves, we found out that all the things our parents told us to do and not to do - are well, true!

We like to think that we're in control, and we get to choose stuff and all.

But to a bigger extent than we'd like to admit, people are programmed by their environment and therefore we actually 'choose' what is familiar.

such as the twig is bent so grows the tree. It is patterns we learn when we are really really young.

We emulate what we know and with education you modify to good extent that which you dislike.
