We have spent much time & money landscaping our back yard, which borders on a stream and forest within the city limits of Ottawa ON. These overgrown gophers are so destructive! I have been putting out a live trap with various vegetables/fruits in hope of capturing & relocating, but the bait is ignored. HELP!!!

Try a mix of peanut butter and sunflower seeds. I know it is not common feed for these critters, but it might work. I have done lots of mammal trapping in my life and I have even caught mink on peanut butter, so it might work for ground hogs too. Typically I would use lettuce, but if that wasnt working, try graham crackers, carrots, or other hard, long lasting things. Good Luck!
I think you should try other mean of removign them instead of live trapping, which is illegal by the way, so keep it on the downlow..
Try detering them, by spraying them with the hose, or firing cap guns at them, even placing beach balls along their walk ways startles them. All of thes ethings can be purchased at the dollar store. Using products like critter ridder right in the hole can scare them off. Ro-PEL is another good product to spray on plants if you notice they are eating them. Moth balls down the hole works as well. Ammonia soaked rags can also deter them.
Good Luck! hope that helps

They love cabbage and lettuce. Find out where he is coming into the yard, they travel the same paths over and over. If you put the trap in his path and bait it with the stuff above I bet you'll catch one or two. Good Luck!!!
