Hm, now there are other reactions to fear. These two are interesting reactions though. Forgetting everything and running is one reaction. Standing and fighting is also another reaction to fear. Fight and flight.
The idea of running is a fear itself. A fear that I will only keep running unless I take a stance against fear. That fear alludes to constant failure.
False evidence appearing real will break down all your prior beliefs. Your beliefs are what your brain sets into place to substantiate the ego. Any evidence that contradicts that will make one fear everything that either the evidence or beliefs relate to. I think the fear comes from the evidence of something that was once believed to be fallacious being proven true. Again, when this occurs one may have to resort to your first statement of forgetting everything and running. Running in the form of denying said evidence. Shutting it out of your mind. Fleeing the evidence. One may also fight it by accusing said evidence of being false. Finding derivatives to argue against it and justify with what you once thought was real. Basically it is the fear of change.
Flight may best describe my reaction to fear if my only two choices are these two. Hm, yes, I am a man of flight in the face of danger. I conquer these fears gradually and reluctantly. I, however, do not fear change. I do, however, fear hypocrisy, and must do my best at times to abandon my ego in the face of change.

The second. Humans fear because they are worried that whatever it is they are afraid of could hurt them. Naturally, we are afraid of some things for our own survival and safety...spiders, heights, etc. But most of the time, the things that people are afraid of won't hurt them, and it is false evidence appearing real.

Both...without a doubt.
When it's just your skin on the line people tend to run and let the next fellow worry about it.
When you're faced with having to defend someone most people dig their heels in.

Fear is something to be overcome. Not an acronym.
We either let it control us, or we fight it.
Fighting fear and standing up to it is called courage.
Find an acronym for that one.
