Hi fellow travellers. I'm going to Malaysia in a few weeks, and I'm looking to stay (even for one night; since I can't afford much more) in a traditional house on stilts by the water. Do you have any references or recommendations? Thank you.

It really depends on your budget. Also, it depends on what type you are looking; luxury or just plain common houses.

Most of the traditional houses on stilts are at fisherman villages and usually they don't really allow people to stay unless you know them well. There are some but I'm not so sure where. They are usually not listed in hotel guides as they are not rated. If I recall correctly, there are resorts with such houses located at lakes.

The previous answer includes mainly 3-5 star resorts and are not exactly traditional but suites or chalets built on stilts. It would be great if you know people working at those places because it could easily cost you up to RM400 or more per night just staying there. Knowing an employee there could save you up 70%.
