AN OUTDOOR CAT!.
Fish need to have their tanks/bowls cleaned. Goldfish are the worst . Although hardy, they are particularly dirty. Their tanks get slimy the fastest. If you go with fish, Guppies would be a better choice. They reproduce readily. Put allot of greenery in the tank and the babies will have a place to hide so their parents won't eat them.

An outdoor cat will hang around the house if he knows that is where he can find indoor shelter if needed and food. He will do his 'business' outdoors. No mess No fuss. Put 'advantage' or another long term flea deterrent, on him from time to time to prevent fleas. Cats clean themselves.
Of course he will need shots once a year
.
Rodents - are good. Mice, Hamsters, Rats, Guinea Pigs. But they need their cages cleaned often . Don't live as long as a dog or cat.
.
A well trained dog could be a pleasure but you have to put allot of time into training. It's is worth the effort if you are a dog lover

I believe that a beta fish is the easiest pet to care for. Cleaning his/her tank once a week at least and feeding it once every two days is pretty much it. Plus beta fish do not need large tanks like most fish, small ones will do just fine.

Fish are easy but do take some work, seeing that most need filters and heaters. The only fish that doesn't is a Betta Fish (siemese fighting fish). They are originally from Asia and hop from rice patty puddles to rice patty puddles so they are used to harse conditions. They need very little water and will come to the surface for air if they run out of oxygen in the water.

I think a fish is the biggest pain to take care of. I have dogs, cats, guinea pigs and a fish, and I hate taking care of the fish. His aquarium is always full of algea, so I have to scrub it all the time, the water gets nasty, you have to change the filters, and all for the joy of watching a fish swim around a little bowl all day. No thanks! Once he dies, I'll never have another. My cats are not difficult to care for at all, so I'll say a cat is easy to care for.

Reptile! Lizard! No fur to shed, only need to feed now and again. Not much poop to pick-up. No walking. No alge to clean or chemicals to worry about. No de-sexing fees.
