Arabians are highly intelligent horses, they are spirited not high strung,If trained properly by a knowing trainer they are the best. Ive owned and trained Arabians for over 20 years. One thing to remember some Arabians are smarter than you are so respect that please. Any horse can get "spooked" so expose your horse to new things, blowing paper, the opening of an umbrella, the noise of a crowd ,the sound of a car backfiring or even the sound of a gun. Do it in a safe reassuring manner ,you have to earn a horses trust ,then he will do anything for you. Also don't believe sellers of horses when they say "kid safe" get someone that trains horses or is very knowledgeable to help you find the right horse for you. Also make sure you get a vet check by your vet ,not the sellers as to the health and soundness of any horse you are looking to buy. Good luck

Generally, I wouldn't suggest an anglo if it's your first horse and you aren't really experienced. I wouldn't say that they are all spooky, but they are all really smart, and could use their intelligence against you. But, if you know of an anglo and you love it and trust it, get it. Loving the individual should be more important than loving the breed. I would also suggest that you don't do it alone. Make sure that you have someone experienced with you so they can help you to stay on track.
Another thing- when looking to buy- definately go for a lease first or a trial. You can never be too certain.
Good luck : ) Hope you find the horse of your dreams !

You can't judge a horse by its breed alone. Sue, Thoroughbreds and Arabians (the cross that gets you the Anglo-Arab) are known for being fiery and excitable, but there are exceptions to every rule.
As a beginner rider, you should focus on the horse- never mind the breed. If you are seriously looking, have a professional find you a great beginner horse. When you are an experienced rider and older, maybe you can find the Anglo-Arab of your dreams.

It wouldn't be a good choice for a first pony, yes they are highly strung, and can take off. You would be better off looking at one of the English natives like a new forest, or a cob, something a little heavier that you can start with, then progress to an anglo arab

If you need a good start horse, you should think about a calmer breed. Or, you could try like, an older mustang. They are especially good on trail rides as they are surefooted. It just depends on the horse. It may have vices, There is no perfect horse. You need to see which faults you can live with and ones which you can't. Also, what type of food can help with your horse. Things like lots of oats and grains can get a horse highstrung. Good luck!

If you want an arabian it is a good choice --yes they can be spirited--thats not a bad thing but they can also become your best friend they connect well one on one --I have had my arab for 26 years he is a doll--he will take the children for pony rides and still give me a good ride its like he knows the riding ability of the person on board--one thing to remember is never to get overly excited around them even when you are repremanding--they do get excited and then just want to not listen as well its like they shut you out--so just be calm and they do to--they learn quickly what you want and need--
Good luck and God Bless you in finding a new best friend

Arabs are "hot blooded" horses.
They are more reactive to things and can spook easier.
THey are wonderful horses. They make fantastic mounts for endurance riding as they will go forever.
Depending on what you are planning to do one that was a little older like 10 or so and well mannered could makea wonderful first horse.

Horses have different personalities, so can't judge them on their breed. If you really want an Ango Arabian, then search around for a calm one, or an older one with a lot of experience.

Try to find an appendix Quarter Horse (QH w/ a little Thoroghbred) that way you'll have the calmness of a qh with a little bit of spunk (and refinement) from the TB... you seem pretty spunky yourself, I read your other questions, but a spunky horse + a spunky rider isn't a good start... it's like fire and gasoline.
