Besides calling them some of the most muscular and highly disciplined athletes, I'd refer to them as, "danseur", or dancer.

The term ballet refers to a form of dance in which there are a series of disciplined poses and steps combined with turns and leaps. The French first named it after the Latin word, ballare...to dance. The word ballerina first appears around 1815, when someone started calling the dancers ballerinas. In France, ballet dancers are called danseur or danseuse...So a male ballerina might be called danseur.

A 'cavalier' is the term for the male partner of a ballerina in classical ballet.

However the term 'ballerina' itself can be said to be actually only appropriate to refer to the highest ranking female dancers of a ballet company ie the 'principal dancers'

It is more common to refer to dancers (male and female) in a ballet company as, well, 'dancers' or by their rank, 'corps dancers' (corps being French for 'body' so meaning the 'main body of the company') or 'soloist' or 'principal dancer' etc

However, as a general term (especially among non dancers) 'Ballerina' is used to cover any female dancer of classical ballet, especially when thinking of the iconic (but rather narrow view) of a female dancer in pink tights, tutu, tiara, pointe shoes......

For a man just call him a 'ballet dancer' that is quite acceptable.

Since a ballerina is the term used for a female dancer of high rank, the male is known as premier danseur. Otherwise they are ballet dancers (male or female as the case may be).

"Ballerina" is a title given to the "star " dancer of the company, not every female ballet dancer is a ballerina.
So therefore a male star dancer of the company would be called the Principal male dancer.
And to every ignorant brat who associated male dancers with homosexuality, well go and see a ballet,it might be the most masculine thing you will come across.
