There's evidence to suggest the former. But if you think it is genetic, is this in every case, and if not, do you think the people that choose to be gay have a mental disorder? This isn't asked from a homophobic place. I sometimes even wear pink socks.

Hmmm? – as I mentioned dude, this isn't coming from a homophobic POV. I'm trying to ascertain what people think on this issue. I believe it's predominantely genetic. There really isn't any other explanation, though as you can see, not everyone agrees with me (or you).

Homosexuality is pre-determined at birth. Whether this is genetic, caused by hormonal factors in the womb, or both begs further research. But the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association have determined that homosexuality is not a disorder.

Now if I may read into your quetion some, if you are asking whether a straight person could ever indulge in gay sex, of course, and it happens. But not as a way of live spread over time.

As for your pink socks...I hope never with brown shoes.

No more then heterosexuality is a mental disorder.

What a loaded question. From experience I will tell you I was born Gay. I know no other way to explain it other then I knew I liked men. I was never molested, I was never rejected by woman, and I have now been in a stable loving relationship for 25 years. Get over this better then though heterosexual mentality! We all have issues and problems with relationships, straight or gay it is hard enough being human! Plenty of heterosexuals with tons of mental disorders.... My guess is there are a lot more heterosexuals in insane asylums then there are gay!

Homosexuality is not a "genetic disorder." It's a SIN brought in to a person's life by means of choice. People CHOOSE to be homosexual, it's not something their born with. "Evidence" will always be around to try and convince people and help them justify that they're OK and that there's nothing wrong with them because it's what they want to hear! Homosexuality can only be cured by a desire to seek God's face and turn from one's sinful ways. Besides, IF we could be born gay, how would we know it? Babies and small children have no way of being conscious of such things other than by influences that PARENTS fail to sheild them from. Science (in my humble opinion) can take their "evidence" and shovel it down someone else's throat.....I'm not buying it!

Most is genetic. I read a study showing that childhood sexual abuse will alter the child's gender orientation, which makes sense.

It's sad some priests have been creating some then turning around and condemning them.

It's not a mental disorder in the least per the APA.

I believe homosexuality is genetic and I don't consider it a disorder in any way. I also do not believe homosexuality is a preference. It would be incredibly difficult and oddly unnecessary to "make" yourself want to be with the same sex and actually enjoy it and prefer it if it's not what you truly desire. It's something that comes naturally and is within a person from birth and beyond.

Even if you claim not to be homophobic, the fact that you refer to it as a "disorder" reveals your underlying view of homosexuality. It may be a "condition" or a "state of being", but it is not called a disorder by anyone other than those who feel threatened by it and wish to interfere with the freedom of others.

Also, I suspect the number of gays who wear pink socks is very low indeed - they tend to have better dress sense, if you will excuse the stereotype.

Is genetic. And its not a black-or-white issue. Most people have SOME curiosity about various kinds of sex. But they also wind up preferring one sort above the others.

Most (99.9%) of people are XY genetically.
A small percent are XXY or XYY. These people are genetically predisposed to be homosexual.

Of course more than .1% of people are homosexual.

So to answer your question I would say both. Gayness is a societal choice nowadays for many many people. More so choice than genetics...

The US military classifies it as a mental disorder. BECAUSE IT IS !

It's a life style choice made by confused people. They need help and don't want it cause they are too sick to see the truth.. Sad

Even the Catholic church ( AKA cult ) doesn't want them because they can't reproduce to increase the flock size... In other words they're choice is sending them to hell (no reproduction, no eternal life in having children to carry on and compete the circle of life) Its natures way or culling the population of the sick whom dont's deserve to be in the gene pool.

I'm sure its not genetic but most people says its mental disorder, but all I can say is its freedom!!! Homosexuality have the finality of their decisions. Be free... to be coward or be brave!!!
