Learn all you can about creating algorithms and object oriented modeling. Then pick three languages that you would want to work with in the future. This way, you'll have something else constructive to do when you just *CAN'T* look at one more line of code in one language. Find an open source or freeware project to collaborate on with others more experienced than you. Read as many articles and tutorials as possible to sharpen your knowledge while broadening your experience. Then as you master those two or three languages, you can add others one at a time to become as familiar as possible with a selection of languages. Always try and get the program to work as perfectly as you imagined, don't get a decent result once and buggy crap three more times and declare it finished. Above all, be busy and be persistent.

Read about (but don't necessarily learn) all the major developments in the various platforms (Java, .NET.) Read about all the latest trends in patterns and practices. Program a lot - eat, sleep, and code. Get others to look at your code and comment on it. Read books, buy Java and MSDN magazines, read everything.
