When a person falls in love they experience a exhilarating feeling of well-being & positive self worth. This is a response to the show of admiration from the beloved which validates your own sense of self-worth (even though you might have at times doubted you own value.) You now realize that you really do count for something to another person.
Roy Croft poetically illustrates this validation & confirmation of self-worth that a beloved receives in these words:
"I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you."
We want to be fulfilled. Knowing that who we are as a person is considered worthwhile to another is enough to make us feel completely fulfilled.
Being loved means being known as the person you are & admired & respected for it. Lovers see the very essence of each other's essential nature. They are uniquely able to see & respond to each others hidden virtues.
