I live in a country (Greece) where there are very few black men. People here actually use the word ""black" without meaning to be racist towards those people nor concidering it to be racist. We are not even used to using the word coloured - sounds kinda funny in our language. "******" of course is not used, it is concidered affensive by everyone. What i'm trying to say is , i think you're aliittle overreacting. I mean we should all respect those people and their culture, choices or background, but we shouldnt play with words. These peolpe have a special skin colour. That doesnt make them worse or better than me, like having blue eyes for ex. doesnt qualify someone as much. Why is it offensive to state their difference. It's not discrination it's mere observation without any sort judgement attached to it.

uhhh....yeah! We haven't been coloured for some decades now. If you were having a conversation with a black person and used that term, you wold definitely get a negative response..

I am african american or black and yes it would bother me if someone came to me and called me coloured because it was used in such a negative sense back in those days. We as blacks have come a long way from the days of being called coloured and ****** and yes the term is very derogatory.

would you or do you like being called a honkey or cracker????

if u dont think that calling white people ..cracker or honkey is not a racist statement.......then nope what you said is not a racist statement either....

but if you do think that it is a racist comment ..then so is your comment...

our realities in life is what WE PERCEIVE them to be..we make our own realities in this world....so therefore all these racist comments on here will always be offending someone, someone will always think someone is saying a racist comment...

racism exists in all forms ...why cant we just be called humans..whats so hard with that..thats whats wrong with america, its too busy trying to lump people into "catergories" instead of trying to solve REAL issues in this world like orphans and foster children being abused daily in the current state services that we have....its just pathetic....

Black, white, coloured is racist depending on how and when those terms are used. just being considerate will take away the the racist tendency in our prejudices.

I have heard black people call themselves "people of color". Some of them seem to think it is more dignified than "black", "*****" or "African-American". What it seems to come down to is that not all black people can agree on what they want to be called, and it's beneficial in the sense that it gives many a free pass to get offended whenever they like - many use this to their advantage. In my experience, it's best not to refer to race at all, or to ask that person what they prefer to be called.

As for "Colored" itself, it's evocative of pre-civil rights era thinking, but not necessarily racist. I think most people would agree that the context the word is used in is important.

It depends on who is the object of the calling. I've heard some say that they prefer being called colored because there are not black but all different shades. Some don't like “colored” because it feels negative. The same for "black" and "African American"; it all depends on who one is talking to.

yes. calling black people colored means they are normal+color, as in normal is white and they are a colored shade. This is wrong. You'd have to call everyone colored; to be honest, if anyone's colored, it's white people. Blue when they're sad, Green when they're sick, red when angry, yellow when scared [stolen off a comedy skit].. but yea it's not right to call someone colored, unless they've got marker on them. You know what? If calling black people colored isn't racist, than all white people are bleached.

Some people who are brain-washed, up-tight, or hyper-sensitive may find it offensive, but it is not racist.

To live your life worrying about being politically correct and obsessing about not offending anyone is going to cause you to miss the important things.

Besides, it doesn't matter what you say or do, there will always be some petty, whiny, jerk who will be offended.
