Sunni and Shi'i dominations in the Muslim faith came about in a battle over caliphal succession. The Shi'is are partisans of the caliph, Ali and his son Husayn. The Sunnis aquiesced in the power of the Umayyad and Abbasid caliphs.
When you think of Shi'i martyrdom, at least I think it's not very much unlike Roman Catholic saints (I grew up in the church).
Anyway, Sunnis and Shi'is kill eachother for the same reason every other opposition partisan group kills eachother. For power. There is nothing particularly special about this.

Unfortunately some killings such as this are taking place but it is not because they read the Koran. Did people kill each other in Europe during World War 1 and 2 because they read the Bible?
Such killings take place because followers of any religion have forgotten the basic teachings of their religions, and are driven by pure hatred and blinding ignorance and evil revenge.

People have always killed each other for religious beliefs. Seems to be part of the calling. Is it called bigotry? Just about every country on this Earth is fighting about turf,gold(all types) or religion. Nothing will change..no matter how many songs you can sing ..will please only you.Be happy with that.Something Better Change ..I say we should as a race..all of us will ..may need to jettison something for the sake of.......the Future..

pliiiiiiiz don't generalize..there are few muslims who do that
Quraan is not the reason....there were bloody religious wars between catholic and prostants ,there were the cresades against muslim countries
don't blame the Quraan.It's people who use religion to gain power
it's a matter of politics not religion

This includes everyone who reads the Tora and Bible. Funny thing everyone in these religions and people are come from Abraham (abram). Wouldn't he be ashamed that all of his children .
