The most terrifying of the sci-fi books, to me, is WAR OF THE WORLDS because the original novel was set in the late 1800s long before there was even a beginning of an understanding of the possibility of life on other planets by the general public. The people were just becoming comfortable with the mechanized era and down comes "spaceships" for their horror! Sometimes I think it is sad that the movies made from this tale are all set in modern day times, it really takes away some of the true science fiction quality of the original book.

My favorite was Doctor Who, but I really preferred the original series with Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, Peter Davidson, Collin Baker, etc. It was aired when the SciFi channel first hit the airwaves, from the beginning (first filmed in early sixties) until the end. The present version is good, but the time slot they gave it bites.
Right now my favorite is StarGate (SG1), though the original story line has taken some weird twists and turns. I've always enjoyed Richard Dean Anderson's work , even from His McGuyver days.

Anything Joss Whedon touches is golden. Lifetime obsessive fan of Firefly, Buffy and Angel. Die hard fan of the X-Files too (there's nothing I don't know about these shows... ask me!) Am well-versed in TNG and Voyager but must say that between Chris Carter's conspiratorial mind and Joss' linguistic and imaginative charms, I am set.

Huge Neil Gaiman reader, love Robert J. Sawyer, Tom Robbins (more fantasy than scifi) and any non-fiction that sheds light on the paranormal, the unusual or extra-sensory.

Blakes' 7 - Blakes' 7 was a major Science Fiction TV series made by the BBC between 1977 and 1981. It surrounded the exploits of a group of interstellar terrorists and their efforts to inflict serious damage on a vicious, corrupt and totalitarian galactic Federation. I loved it for its interaction between the characters - not exactly the friendly crew of the Enterprise.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer! It's not 100% Sci-Fi but it's not 100% anything else either!
