There are too many set ups out there to make your engine a strong runner. But you need to have an idea what you want 1st. The Chevy 350 350 cam is a good start camshaft for what you are looking for. Go to a good set of heads and have them port and polished to obtain max flow. The older fuelie heads with the 202 valves are a good choice. Holley or Edlebrock are good choices for a carb set up as well, do you want dual feed or the Q-Jet style?
What kind of trans are you putting behind all of this?Auto or stick? How about the rear gear ratio? Low gear ratio or highway. Low gears give you full acceleration quicker, the higher gears will give you all the top end speed you want. My choice would be 3:55. or 3:73's Now what kind of rubber are you planning on? Need much wider tires and rims to make that HP stick to the ground, dont want to be all over the road, do you? Need the suspension beefed up a well and the exhaust too. Cant choke off that motor with a lousy exhaust system. And you would be squirrelling all over the road without a good suspension beefed up. Have you though about all of this, or are you just looking at a motor that you will just outright blow up without the rest of the package in place? Instead of thinking motor here. Try beefing the suspension 1st(traction bars, HD shocks poly bushings, etc.), then the exhaust, trans and gears after that.(If you have an auto trans, try installing a B&M trans pack into it, if you have a stick use a good HD 11 inch clutch) You will be surprised how much better that stock engine runs before you ever rebuild it! Try not to think backwards, build that car 1st and the engine last.

A power package is the way to go. The engineers have done all the math, carb size(i would go fuel injection if you can afford it) cam duration and lift, as well as a header package. But in the end remember if you don't have at least a 355:1 gear ratio in the rear end and a good tranny setup you are wasting your money. you can make all the horses you want but if you cant plant them on the ground you are wasting your time. Up to 500 hp or even higher is still street able, but you'll be stopping at a lot of gas stations.

Check into the Edelbrock Total Package. They have done all the research. All you have to do is purchase their package and install it. This is probably the most fool-proof method. For those advanced installers, like me, we do the research based on what we want out of our hotrod, the engine of choice, the weight of the vehicle, the gearing, transmission type, what it will be used for, Too many variables for an inexperienced or mildly experienced installer.
