On Christmas people do not gain a gift, you are given a gift on Christmas, or you are given presents, or you get presents or you receive presents.
To gain is to obtain something by sheer effort and persistence.

Ummm... gifts? Or presents? I don't think they have a specific "name" do they? They are just given as tradition reflecting the gifts given to Jesus from the Magi (according to Christian religion, thank you, before someone starts jumping up and down about pagan festivals).
