When I was younger I had a similar problem- although I was in the situation your best friend is in. I had been best friends with Isabel for years, but she was always fixated with the idea of being a part of the elite 'cool' crowd. She began making friends with one or two of the group and expected me to tag along, but to do so meant I would have to leave behind a group of friends that meant sooo much to me (they weren't accepted by the 'cool' crowd). I made the decision to stay with my group of friends and let my best friend go- as hard as that was. I loved her dearly but I wasn't willing to sacrifice a group of special people to 'climb the social ladder' with her. It made me really sad to let it happen at the time, but i realised it's all a part of growing up, moving on and being your own person. Sometimes you just have to let go, but do it in the nicest way possible, that way years down the line you may still enjoy a pleasant acquaintance with her as I do with Isabel.

You being so "popular" maybe she is not not very confident and that intimidates her, and we don't llike to be in the other girl's shadow...And you answered your question .. you grew appart, you're too different now... what ties you now? You can talk to her and see what you both want. I had a best friend in my chilhood , after 10 years we were completely strangers and we had nothing in common anymore,,, she has much more money then I do , fancy clothes and she thinks she got higher with all these,,, I backstepped and allowed her to live her dream.

Make the first move. Give her a call and chit chat. Invite her to lunch. If she declines, ask her to call you when she has time to have lunch with you. If she doesn't call soon, forget it. She isn't interested in continuing the friendship. This happens. Make some new friends and don't worry about it. At least you will have made an attempt to put things right and you can rest easy.

Just give it time, contact her in a few months. If you really valued the friendship call her now. Anyway you never know later on you could reunite and be friends again.
