De rossi was suspended by the FIFA federation for an high elbow which was Supposedly intentional, while Zidane was awarded Player of the tournament even if he delivered an intentional header to Marco Materazzi. Why was this incident ignored, and why was Zidane still awarded Man of the tournament?

In my point of view Zidane should have been the last man to receive the awared.

unpleasant GESTURE?!?!?!?! You must be joking... A gesture is a movement relating to something, Zidane deceitfully planned an unjustifying attack, he walked away from materazzi (being the man to defend him he followed) then turned around and pounded Materazzi in the sternum (which i don't know if you know you anatomy but is the bone that HOLDS your rib cage together, if broken, can cause eternal bleading leading to death, the hault of your heart beats, resulting in death or puncture lungs, resulting in death. It was a careless, classless, and an act no player should enact.

Don't be sore that Italy won be sore that Zidane did what he did. I tip my hat to his amazing performances in the past but truth be told, he has a history of stomps, headbutts and even punches that have been recorded. Remember what Hemingway said, "courage is grace under pressure". Clearly there was nothing graceful about his cruel fouls, and by definition and by Hemingway's quote, there is nothing courageous about it either. As for diving... Diving is a term used by the opposing viewer to make themself feel better for a call they don't support. Remember if not for the referee's it would be a blood bath, maybe even worse than hockey. I believe Italy won fairly, they played passionately, and it's too bad that a foul causes second glances toward the victors. They defeated Germany in a colliseum consisting of tens of thousands of fans with only speckles of blue to be seen. They persevered through a HUGE loss when Alessandro Nesta was forced to warm the bench due to a thigh injury. Fabio Cannavaro was then substituted for Nesta and efficiently led the Italians to a 2006 World Cup Victory. I am Italian, I may be partially biased, but if Italy would have lost, I would not have screamed cheats, brutes, or another readily used term to take away fame. Who wins the world cup wins because THEY ARE THE BEST. Who knows maybe France will win 2010. But what I know now is that Italy won fairly, and the only possible unfair call is the penalty kick given to Zidane early in the game. It is soccer, let them play soccer. If a player falls because another player is trying to regain an offensive position for his team, think about repositioning the ball for the other team, but not by giving a penalty kick, ecspecially in such an early time of the game which was showed in the match between Italy vs France. Either way, biases aside, the 2006 FIFA worldcup final match between Italy and France was BEAUTIFUL. Endurance, each player showed by lasting until penalty kicks (amazing if you see their winding sprints). Determination, shown how each player fought for the ball using every legl limb they had to keep posession of the ball (watch Cannavaro fighting for the ball, it is a beautiful sight). Lastly, passion, by playing soccer for their team and country, defeating power house countries like: Brazil, who leads the world in the most first place holdings in the world cup, and Germany, being the favored team in the 2006 world cup and having a huge advantage of playing on their homeland. We are lucky to to view such a beautiful dislay of soccer (Zidane's action aside). Italy won fairly and has the right to say they are the best in the world. Trying to take that away (from the Italians that played beautifully to win the cup) is disgusting. Non ce'male Italia. Non c'e'male. Esposizione bella di pallone!

Zidane owes the fans, FIFA, the Italian soccer team, and his own team an apology. He is the captain of his team, he is supposed to leave a clean path for future generations. Leaving the sport by headbutting is not an action any leader needs to do to prove his dominance. BAD FORM Zidane. BAD FORM!

It's a 'political' decision by FIFA and Blatter. In this way they are trying to cancel the 'final act' of Zidane from his career.

Well sad to say but there is no democracy in this decision.

IMHO I considered Zidane a great champion, and he is best player of the league but as a champion and as a professional player he should deserve what he achieved after 'the fact' or at least he should talks to the media to take his own responsabilities... what he din't do till now. Neither FIFA who is trying to hide everything...theyr 'motto' is FAIR PLAY...think about it.

De Rossi deserved the red card and the exclusion and he paid for it.

Justice it's quite strange especially when FIFA is controlled by France.

cheers
Dax

De Rossi is a minor player in comparison with Zizou, and he kicked his opponent during the championship. Zidane did this unpleasant gesture on the last match. The jurnalists were those who decided that he deserves to win, and they took into account the whole championship, during which Zizou played great. Plus, he cannot be suspended, since he is a retired man now...
Anyway, he deserved the award. If you have seen him playing, you would understand what I mean...

I hope the reporters picked him before the final, otherwise it tells me acting like an animal is sanctioned by FIFA, I don't remember the worlds greatest player PELE ever acting like this. There is no excuse for this type of behavior.
My memory of Zidane will be this thug act of his, nothing else.

I LOVE HOW YOU PEOPLE WASH YOUR HANDS AND LOOK THE OTHER WAY TO SOMEONE WHO HAS REPEATED HISTORY OF VIOLENCE..THE GUY HAS 14 RED CARDS IN HIS PROFESSIONAL CAREER (HE ISN'T MUCH OF A PROFESSIONAL THOUGH)..HE HAD 3 YELLOWS IN THIS TOURNEY ALONE AND 2 OF HIS GOALS WERE WEAK PKs..

he is a disgrace to football and to the World Cup...as he has gotten 2 Red Cards in World Cup play...in 98 and now in 2006..

who else stomps on a Saudi's legs and headbutts a player from Hamburg during the Euro Club Championships in 2001 while playing for Juventus???

Don't judge him just because of the headbutt incident..think about the other times whereby he was brilliant. but as usual people will only think abt the bad times he had. not the good ones.
