How can I use a scarf to dress up an outfit?

Obviously this question depends on the outfit in question. If you are referring to a business suit, your only real option would be one over the back of your neck, either tied in front or tucked into the jacket.

If you are talking about a casual situation, there are a few options. An open-neck shirt would be enhanced by a short scarf tied around the neck, with the knot in back or on the side. Tying one about your head, like a headband, would be a nice, subtle enhancement.

I like the idea of a sash-type placement, just as long as the tails aren't too long. (One would not want to trip over them.) A triangular scarf could be worn like a sarong, giving a tropical feel if that be your fancy.

Depending on your hair length, tye it around your head pulling back your bangs or front fringe. Or if your hair is long, use it to tie a ponytail.

You could also wear the scarf as a belt around your waist. You could wear it as a regular scarf (around the neck). Or you can tie it around your wrist, depending on how long it is (this works for short scarves).
