Hormone levels - progesterone - rises. This ensures that the woman does not start a period and miscarry. The nausea ususlly settles down about the third month mark when her body gets use to the raised hormones.
Feeling sick is worse for some than others. Try sipping ginger or peppermint tea or ginger beer. Vitamin B 6 can sometimes help and snacking on dry biscuts and small meals. If the sickness is really bad see a doctor as you don't want to risk dehydration
If you lift heavy objects there is a risk of straining your stomach or back. The woman's joints also become more 'softer' especially during the last trimester so that the delivery is easier. Hope this helps.

That other person was right - they have not actually proven what causes morning sickness although hormones are a likely theory. For example, lots of women get sick taking the pill and it contains hormones.
A pregnant woman's digestive system moves much slower, too, and that also can lead to more stomach upset, constipation, etc.
Whatever the reason, it makes a woman miserable and it doesn't always last a few weeks (like one person wrote). Mine lasts 5 months with every pregnancy and some poor women are sick the entire 9 months!

Hormone levels change... and the body reacts as if it's fighting a sickness...
Can't lift heavy objects because the strain can damage the embryo

Officially, I was told that there isn't any real known reason why some women get sick and others don't; my Dr. felt it is the change and in hormones causing extreme changes in your blood sugar.
The reason that you Dr. recommends against lifting any heavy objects is that he is afraid if you strain our stomach muscles too much, it could cause them to contract and lead to a miscarriage.

Hormonal changes in your body make you nauseous. Your body and specifically your stomach and intestines are not used to the pregnant condition. The change from the normal (not pregnant) condition is what you are used to.
The feeling will pass in a week or three.
Don't lift anything heavy after the first trimester. You could injure yourself and your unborn child. Your body is changing. Take care of it!
