It depends geographically....

Coz if it was day for one side of the world
It would have been night on the other side

According to the Rg Veda, there was darkness at the beginning. If night means this darkness, then night came first. Actually, day and night are relative terms. With the Sun coming to be, there is occasion for day or night. If the answwer is not clear, then the question is not.

If you follow the biblical version of creation, then "It was evening, then it was morning, first day".

If you follow the astrophysics model for accretion of the solar system, then day came first because prior to accretion there was no shadow to create night.

It would make sense that it all started with dawn.....The first sunrise to start off the first day and a new beginning.

Actually they're simultaneous. Any moment, even this one, is some combination of day and night.
