My wife and I had thought about names for quite a while, even years before she fell pregnant. We tended to either go for names that where from people we new/heard of in the past or read about in books (not baby naming books), but tried to think of ones as unusual as possible. This method doesn't always work out once the child is born, as in the case of our first child, her personality, and our emotional state at that time dictated the one chosen, in her case Lily-Beth (nearly 2 years old now!), which isn't that unusual now as we have discovered. The second was easier to name as my wife was adamant about calling her Wren, which is her name now. Naming a child with a very unusual name can cause friction too, my Wife’s mother hated the name and not just 8 hours after the birth told us so, preferring a name she had chosen - very very insensitive, and very selfish!

As to your choices, they are all nice - Susan being the least unusual. They all seem to be shortened names, Lyne: Lynette; Tasha: Natasha; Susan; Susanna etc. and people will ask if that is the case (we have the same with Lily: 'what is Lily short for?' we are often asked). So be prepared for this, it does get annoying!

I favour Rose for several reasons: One, it is so classical, beautiful, traditional and suggestive of her birth place. Two, it cannot be shortened further (Susan: Sue; Tasha: Tash or Tish). Three, It is less subject to trends (again I quote, sadly, Lily :( ). Four, it can easily be accompanied by a middle name: Rose-Lyne (two for the price of one!) and many others. Need I go on?

My final word, I do not know your surname, but that can play a major part in the final name (Miss Rose ******), as can initials, Rose Anne Tate for example translates to RAT which will be picked up at School.

Hope that helps!

I love my daughters name Lily.

Its such a pretty name, gives me the perception of peace and love anyways, not that the name helps...............shes still a bloody terror!

Out of your names I prefer Rose, suppose as its a flower name like Lily.

If your stuck deciding why now combine? Like Tasha Rose or Susan Lyne?

Both sound brilliant together,

Like I said though I prefer Lily, oh and my second choice if I have another girl would be Ella or Evie.

Those are all nice names. I think there are three important things to consider when choosing a baby name:
1 - Significance. Think of any women you know with this name and determine if you (or the baby's mom) have a strong feeling (love or hate; like/dislike) for any of those people. For example, are any of those names the name of your mom, grandmother, special teacher, character on a TV show, celebrity, etc.? Remember that pregnant women are not always rational. When I was pregnant, my husband really wanted to name our daughter "Samantha." He said it was because he always liked that name, but I know he was infatuated with Samantha Fox (80s pop "star") when he was a teenager, so I couldn't get past that connection. Needless to say, our daughter is not named Samantha.

2 - Heritage - Is that important to you. If so, do any of these fit in with your background? For example, remember the TV show "Welcome Back, Kotter"? One of the guys was named "Juan Epstein" - honoring both his hispanic and jewish backgrounds.

2 - Flow - How well does the entire name (including middle name) sound when you speak it aloud? Think of the difference in how names sound with the last names: Courtney Cox & David Arquette's baby is named "Coco Arquette" - doesn't roll off your tongue nicely, sounds harsh. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby is named "Suri Cruise" - flows nicely, but might be better with a middle name (seems too short). Try saying the name you are thinking of as if you were speaking sternly to your child (which you will do more than you think you will) - "Tasha Lyne (whatever), you get over here this instant!" Trust me, that helps a lot!

Congrats and good luck!

When thinking of a name remember when they go to school othe children will shorten the name or even take into account the initials so be careful! Think of the name in full, of your choices I the name Tasha, I had 2 boys but if I had a girl I was going to call her Melissa, good luck deciding on a name and congratulations on having a Girl.

Congratulations on the baby! Personally, i like Tasha out of the ones you've chosen. It's relatively modern and has a nice ring to it, maybe just take a long look at her and think about which name "fits" and seems right, ultimately you have to make the decision. Good luck

I think out of those Tasha is the nicest. I would chose the full version though, Natasha then your little girl can decide which version to use when she's older.

I prefer Mia, Emily, Amy, Grace or Daisy are nicer though!

Good luck choosing a name for your daughter x

I like Rose out of your list (timeless name, can be called Rosie when she's little) but you'll know which name suits her best. I have two boys and neither ended up with the names we'd decided on before they were born. If we'd had a girl we were thinking about Lily, Iona, Ellie, Rosa... Congratulations and good luck!

Of these, I like Rose the best. It's sort of an old fashioned name, but won't make your daughter sounds like an old woman. It will grow up with her, and still sound nice in each period of her life. The middle name you choose, if you're using one, will make a difference though to at certain times. Make sure you like how the name sounds with the middle, last, and both before you choose. Good luck.
