Sympathy is hard to express sometimes!. I would say a lot of men react to down feeling people by wanting to fix their situation by words or actions. Expressing sympathy is a skill that your husband may not have. That does not mean he is insensible or odes not care or does not love you.
There are course on how to learn to express sympathy rather than jumping into solutions
Give your husband the credit he deserves and give him examples on how he can improve this area.

why do u want him to be sympathatic??? maybe you should tell him how u feel and how u want him to feel
