The article as I remember it, was made of metal, and had a receptacle, into which you put the old leftovers of bar soap, you then tightened a screw clamp
and the bits of soap were squeezed together. Wetting it probably helped the
soap to amalgamate into a new bar! Not pretty but as good as a new one! This question originates from the u.k. ,so answers fom elsewhere would probably be not much good.

My father used to grate them on a cheese grater
then dampen them as he molded them into new bars of soap
with his hands!!!
Give it a go! Save the pennies on the gadget, and be proud of your own handwork!
Good Luck!

I am from Scotland, we are considered to be 'tight fisted' ( among other things)!!
I do recall the item you are talking about, but they are no longer in existence !
I can only assume you are of Scots descent ??
As a brand new bar of soap costs a matter of pennies why would anyone want to 'recycle' old bits of soap?
I admit I have now started to save and re use tea bags by hanging them over the bath tub on a line using clothes pegs so they dry out, but recycled soap bits is going a bit over the top dont you think?
Clothes pegs are available at most hardware shops if you want to get into that?
You cant be serious??
Hope this helps??

My Granny used to use a pop-sock !!!
Put all of the soap remnents inside, tie in a knot and chop the excess sock off.
I remember it used to be able to produce quite some foam and no wasted soap !!
If you cant find what you are looking for, try that.
