Yeah we're supposed to gain. Our gov. has doubled the national deficit. How has it helped you? Cost you more in the long run. It's not like we built a highway that money. It's your tax money you should want something from it.

I don't recall any of us being promised cheaper gas when the President decided to go into Iraq. Why? Because this war has nothing to do with oil like so many people claim.
I have gained the knowledge of knowing that Saddam has been captured and is being tried for the crimes he has committed against his own people. I like knowing that he can no longer go around executing an killing children and innocent adults.
The deaths that are happening in Iraq now are being caused by the ignorance of those people that still think the county should be ran by an iron fist. You may feel like our soldiers have made no difference in Iraq, and you may feel that they have died for no reason, but I disagree. I believe they died doing what they believed in, and that was helping people that couldn't help themselves.

I think the only people who gained are those who started the war, politicians and the arms industry. Otherwise the ordinary americans gained nothing, lose lives and reap hatred from the world. The Iraquis did not gain anything and they lost a lot, I am sure even Saddam with all his flaws was better for them than what is happening to them now, so that you can not say that throwing him out was a good thing for them, besides no body should interfer from outside to change a country's ruler. How would you americans who hate Bush feel like if the Germans decided that he was no good and attacked you to overthrow him?

I have gained the knowledge that any fool can be fooled to believe that the Government can be right
I have gained the knowledge that there are people who say that we went to Iraq to get rid of Saddam Hussein and although we did that 3 years ago, he's gone, we're still there and our kids are dying.
I've gained the ability to know very quickly that anyone who says "what, are you a Democrat?" so quickly when questioned about the war is extremely ignorant.
We as a country have gained the disrespect of the bulk of the world. That we're no longer looked at as a "Superpower" but just as a super bully.
I've learned that when people are led like lambs to slaughter; they're usually slaughtered.
I've gained the knowledge that stupid people make really bad Presidents.
I've learned that people who again don't keep up with world affairs and say such things as "you weren't supposed to gain anything" or something equally as ridiculous are never educated even as patiently as you point out that the world is not a safer place, one reign of terror isn't better than another just because the new terror is done out of the name of democracy.
What we will gain as a society is a vast assembly of people (our troops) who were forced to live in the most inhumane conditions imaginable, to fight an enemy who is far more ruthless and cunning than anything our Government imagined, in 120+ degree heat without safety features, knowing that at any moment their lives could be over so that..so that, soooo...um... That we could capture Saddam Hussein and bring him to justice. Because Osama bin Laden who we were going to "hunt like a dog" and get "dead or Alive" is very much alive and although he's 6'5 so quite tall IN the middle of a desert, AND on dialysis, AND traveling with an entourage of 100 people,AND is able to make videos at the drop of a hat, can not be found. Though we COULD find Saddam Hussein buried underground in a catacomb as big as my shower... so that makes sense
I've learned that when we force our kids to live in hell, they will perform hellish acts; that kids that are trained to kill, begin to lose sight of the value of life. And that is something I have learned firsthand
But all of that is just the ranting and raving of a chick who MUST BE A DEMOCRAT!!!

#1 - That proves it wasn't for the oil
#2 - maybe YOU don't feel safer, but we are.... we really are
#3 - less killing in Iraq? of course there is! what are you nuts?
Saddam killed over 10,000 in one sitting... not that many years
AGO.

Gained:
#1 - The killing of thousands of would be terrorist
#2 - The fear of GOD, knowing they can't operate with impunity (wtg Portugal)
#3 - A free Iraq
#4 - stern warning to their neighbors.

How did you miss all these? Are you a democrat?

It's sad to see that so many have forgotten that on 9-11 appox 3000 Americans were killed ON OUR OWN SOIL. Gained? humm, food for thought, we haven't suffered another attack since then, so how bout our freedon to continue our lives in the same day to day fashion we've always enjoyed? The knowledge men aren't being fed into wood chippers and woman being raped killed then fed to dogs anymore? The birth of a new free nation? Guess Just it depends on where your values are to be able to answer this one!

We never went into Iraq to GAIN anything. We went in as retaliation...and the unseat a cruel dictator and give the Iraqi people a chance to control their own government for a change.

We have gained the knowledge that we are impotent militarily and that the ONLY thing we are good at is moving tons of materials far away but that once there we have not clue one as to what to do there. (We hit golf balls on the Moon)

We've gained a lot, not much of it good:

We've gained the disrespect of the global community who no longer perceive the U.S.A. as a world leader and global peacekeeper;

We've gained the wrath of most Iraqi citizens after murdering tens of thousands of their countrymen for no justifiable reason;

We've gained the satisfaction of knowing that George W. Bush has illegally and unconstitutionally invaded another sovereigh country just to 'finish' what his daddy started in Desert Storm, and so that LimpDick Cheney can get his hands on all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands;

We've gained the TRILLIONS of dollars in debt that Bush's folly has put American taxpayers in - a debt that will take generations to pay off (if we ever can);

We've gained the reduction of our own country into a police state wherein American citizens are presumed guilty until proven innocent, all because of Bush's "war on terror" that is nothing more than indecent hyperbole;

We've gained the grief of the families and friends of more than 2,500 U.S. soldiers who have died (so far) just to appease the Bush dynasty and let Georgie Boy play cowboys and Indians with 'real people' instead of his plastic toy military set;

We've gained the further deterioration of our society as Bush neglects the needs of America's poor, disadvantaged, hungry, underprivileged, sick, disabled, homeless and unemployed so that he can play 'macho man' against the world;

We've gained a President who stole an election (or two) without regard for the desires of the people - "just because it's legal doesn't mean it's right";

We've gained an evil, corrupt, incompetent, cowardly Congress that plays "Robin Hood in Reverse", stealing from the poor and giving to the rich who - in turn- make generous (if not illegal) campaign contributions to ensure the GOP remains in power;

We've gained a corrupt political system on which Republicans
and Democrats retain a stranglehold on the people's desire to free elections determined by a popular vote;

We've gained a legislative body that takes lavish salaries, gives themselves an automatic cost-of-living pay increase (while refusing to raise the minimum wage for millions of 'common' folks), and enjoys sucking off the taxpayers' teat with obscene health and medical benefits, all-expense-paid luxury vactions, and outlandish retirement pensions;

We've gained a reputation for torturing 'detainees' without regard for the rules of the Geneva Convention, and turning our backs when these prisoners are physically, emotionally, psychologically, verbally or sexually abused;

We've gained the impudence of American soldiers who rape and murder Iraqi families all because our military forces are trained to hate the 'enemy' (and some soldiers are just too inhumane to actually remain human under the severe conditions of war);

We've gained an audacious, arrogant bastard who, while pretending to be Secretary of Defense, answers a question regarding the consequences of innocent victims of the war by uttering two senseless words: 'STUFF HAPPENS', and thinks that's a reasonable explanation for the evilness of war;

We've gained an administration that lies to the American public (and Congress, which - during Bill Clinton's term was an impeachable offense) and leaks information to the press when it conveniently fits his agenda, then wants to sanction the same 'free press' when it publishes something he wants to keep secret;

We've gained large corporations bilking taxpayers out of billions of dollars without any accountability or without assuming any responsibility for such repugnant behavior...

I could go on, but my fingers are getting tired of typing. -RKO-
