this a reflection of their dreams, infants are humans in development and it is a good sign they do that meaning they remember things and recall them. obviously at that age they will only smile to what they like but you should watch for what they do not like too

Babies are sweet and pure. They don't know evil so they dream about flowers and pink happy things that make them smile. I smile when I have a wet dream but thats just me.

The correct answer is that newborns do not have control over their face muscles (and neither do they control their arms and legs propperly). So I am sorry to say that those smiles are mostly involuntary muscle contractions... Still cute, though!

I think they're dreaming about their blissful days floating around in the womb. Then they wake up and realize they're stuck in this cold hard world.
