I'll bet that in the 2008 olympics that the italians will win the diving competition and I bet that they won't even have to pay the judges off!!

Diving is the worst part of the sport. Though the Italians aren't the only ones who dive just the ones that dive the most often.

No, who wins the world cup is not exactly the best, you see that if you keep an eye one each team's path to victory.

Germany had a very hard game against Argentina, they were physically drained against Italy. Italy won against who? Oh, it was that training match against Ukraine (sorry to the ukranians, but the team got really lucky to get that far).

I doubt Italy or France would have beaten Argentina, they got alot of "luck" (supposing they didn't bought those bad calls) to advance. If the tournament was held again now, would they win again?

And Italy's defensive game-blocking play is very boring. They make faults when they see a good attack is starting, call the opponents all they can and cheat the referee. It must be great for the italian fans, but I see the football as a whole losing. More and more teams will do that since it helps to win, since winning is all that matters.

I miss great players like Pele or Maradona, the ones that could make you like a game even if your team isn't playing. In "modern football" all we have is a bunch of guys that would put poison on the opponent's water to win.

Every team dives, you fool. It's part of the drama of soccer, to see who will get away with what. ...but in the end the game was won by PK's-diving is not a factor in how well you make the goal. Italy did better. (what about France buying the world cup from Brazil?) (what about the Germans buying off the refs in the game with Argentina?) If you think this only happens with the Italians, you need to educate yourself a little more about international soccer!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep I agree. Unfortunately diving has become a bad habit. But I think the worst I have seen during the world cup was the Portuguese team in terms of diving.
Italy has a loooooong history of cheating, FIFA should definitely do something about changing some rules.

Sarah YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!! And a sore loser I might add....Did you at all watch the world cup? I don;t think so cuz you're question has no relevance. Other teams dove as well (and way more than the Italians). I'd also like to add that the Italians weren't the ones wo got into the finals by non -existing penalty kicks!!!!

By the way Sarah, ITALY ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!! So eat that!!!!

Don't be sore that Italy won be sore that Zidane did what he did. I tip my hat to his amazing performances in the past but truth be told, he has a history of stomps, headbutts and even punches that have been recorded. Remember what Hemingway said, "courage is grace under pressure". Clearly there was nothing graceful about his cruel fouls, and by definition and by Hemingway's quote, there is nothing courageous about it either. As for diving... Diving is a term used by the opposing viewer to make themself feel better for a call they don't support. Remember if not for the referee's it would be a blood bath, maybe even worse than hockey. I believe Italy won fairly, they played passionately, and it's too bad that a foul causes second glances toward the victors. They defeated Germany in a colliseum consisting of tens of thousands of fans with only speckles of blue to be seen. They persevered through a HUGE loss when Alessandro Nesta was forced to warm the bench due to a thigh injury. Fabio Cannavaro was then substituted for Nesta and efficiently led the Italians to a 2006 World Cup Victory. I am Italian, I may be partially biased, but if Italy would have lost, I would not have screamed cheats, brutes, or another readily used term to take away fame. Who wins the world cup wins because THEY ARE THE BEST. Who knows maybe France will win 2010. But what I know now is that Italy won fairly, and the only possible unfair call is the penalty kick given to Zidane early in the game. It is soccer, let them play soccer. If a player falls because another player is trying to regain an offensive position for his team, think about repositioning the ball for the other team, but not by giving a penalty kick, ecspecially in such an early time of the game which was showed in the match between Italy vs France. Either way, biases aside, the 2006 FIFA worldcup final match between Italy and France was BEAUTIFUL. Endurance, each player showed by lasting until penalty kicks (amazing if you see their winding sprints). Determination, shown how each player fought for the ball using every legl limb they had to keep posession of the ball (watch Cannavaro fighting for the ball, it is a beautiful sight). Lastly, passion, by playing soccer for their team and country, defeating power house countries like: Brazil, who leads the world in the most first place holdings in the world cup, and Germany, being the favored team in the 2006 world cup and having a huge advantage of playing on their homeland. We are lucky to to view such a beautiful dislay of soccer (Zidane's action aside). Italy won fairly and has the right to say they are the best in the world. Trying to take that away (from the Italians that played beautifully to win the cup) is disgusting. Non ce'male Italia. Non c'e'male. Esposizione bella di pallone!

I have said this and I will say it again.....the Azzuri's are a bunch of actors. To them the pitch is a stage...the blowing of the whistle to start a match thier cue to start acting like Hollywood has never seen before.
But hey it paid off?? Who's got the cup now?? Could have been part of thier winning tactics from their drawing boards for all you know.

They are not the only divers. Just look at the French player (Malouda) in the Final and many other teams.
