The most important moral/ethical law that I've ever come across is the Wiccan Rede. It states: "An ye harm none, do as ye will." This leaves no room to interpretation as do many other moral laws. Even the "Golden Rule" could be used to hurt others. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Does that mean that you are allowed to hurt others if you are a masochist and enjoy being hurt? A masochist could interpret it that way. The Wiccan Rede does not allow for harming anyone, including yourself. It simply says that if you want to do something that causes no one harm, then go ahead. To me that is the most important moral/ethical law we can live by. It means to harm someone either physically, mentally or spiritually is wrong. What could be more important than that?

At the core of all opinion, one must always keep in mind that they may be wrong, that they are fallible and human. The secret to continuing the growth of an individual and also of a society/species is to allow for change, not just in physical form, but of idea, opinion, even fact. I recall the example of Gallileo vs. the Catholic Church; they finally came around, right, so should us all. Our ethics are our humanity, and our humanity, at its core, is or imperfect nature. That's my two cents.

The Golden Rule: Treat others as you would have them treat you. There's a reason it's a classic.
