it is the name of the trophy, they had to call it something...
and there were 2 Canadian team, now there is just 1, so it is not just the American teams playing.
To be technical, Major League Baseball, considered to be the highest league you can reach for it's sport, has zero restirctions on which Countries it's players can hale from, in essence they are the best players in the world, and if you don't look to deep for an answer you can accept it as the World Series.

I can't help but nit pick and point out that Canadian teams play as well. Well, just one team these days since I don't think Montreal has a team any more. It's also worth pointing out that the Toronto Blue Jays have won the World Series twice to my knowledge.
I think the competition got it's name because the guys who started it thought that baseball would become a worldwide sport. It was supposed to be like the Olympics, just with baseball instead of all the other Olympic sports.

Done this one before. Because the Baseball championship in the US, between the winners of the National League and the American League, was originally sponsored by The New York World newspaper. The name has stuck ever since.

There is a Canadian Team (Tronto Blue Jays). Baseball is the most popular in the US. I guess when the Major league began, the founders were hopeful that baseball would catch on to other countries and it would be a world tournament like the World Cup.

at first, Toronto Blue Jays (Canadian team) received the international sequence 2 situations in 1993 and 1994. Now, this is observed as the international sequence because of the decision of gamers representing their international places in MLB. there are a decision of gamers that were born outdoors the U. S. like Albert Pujol, Ichiro Suzuki, Chan Ho Park, etc. The video games are being held in American ball parks (and one Canadian ball park) notwithstanding the gamers symbolize the international.

National and American league teams play, just meaning the best of both in Major League Baseball. The best baseball is played here in the states,so who wins here is the best. And without America, England would be apart of Germany now.

When the world series was first played the commissioner said that it wouldn't just decide the country's best team but the world's.

That isn't true. We go up against Canadian baseball teams as well.
Occasionally we go up against baseball teams from Japan but it's rare because they usually fall short of making it that far, to qualify.
The same holds true for baseball teams in OTHER countries.
We just don't see them going up against us very often.
The fact remains, ALL Baseball teams, no matter what country they're from can play against us but only if they're good enough to tackle the teams WE have.
If you watch often enough, you'll see we go up ,against Toronto Canada ....The Blue Jays... OFTEN! They can cut the muster.
